KTAS Kings: ’94 Suzuki Carry hailing from Eastern North Carolina

Published on

KTAS community member @smol.asahi.delivery / @deltahellcat is the proud owner of a ’94 Suzuki Carry and hails from Eastern North Carolina. Discover the fascinating journey of how this truck enthusiast fell in love with Kei trucks during a visit to Japan, and why the round headlights of the Suzuki Carry captured their heart.

Clean kei Truck

How did you first encounter the Kei truck greatness?

I’ve always like trucks. growing up in the middle of nowhere way up north, I learned to drive on a rust bucket plow truck when I was like 10. it wasn’t til about 2015 that I learned about Kei trucks (and the dumb USA law about cars needing to be 25 or older) and in 2017 I took my first trip to Japan and that was it, I was in love. The round headlights of the Suzuki carry grabbed me and never let go.

Tell us how you acquired your badass ride?

It all started when I got mad at my challenger for always breaking. I said to my best friend “I’m gonna sell this shitbox and buy a Kei truck”. He starts sending me all sorts of Kei trucks. I found Duncan Imports in Virginia and made the 5 hour drive out there to test drive a few of them. I only test drive one, the ‘94 Suzuki carry that I would up buying a couple weeks later.

Eventually I want to design it like a vintage styled Asahi beer delivery truck! but with a touch of modern fun stuff, of course. I’ve been working on building a crate design that I like, function and style combined. I have the door logo decals designed but I’m still not sure if i wanna paint the truck or just keep the aged look.

What do you mainly use your Kei Truck for?

Honestly, it gets used for a little bit of everything! Folding flat sides are SO HANDY! I’ve used it to haul brush, 850lbs of deer corn, and to tow another car! i drive it around town pretty frequently and I’m always getting waves.

Have any wild Kei Truck tales or fun facts about your ride?

I unintentionally found out that I can lift the back end of the truck enough to spin it around. that was a moment of pure hilariousness. what kinda tiny little dinky thing did I buy?!

Favorite thing about owning a Kei truck?

Absolutely all the people that come up and say they miss seeing them from their home countries or deployment or wherever! I’ve met so many people from around the world just by driving my lil Kei.
