Meet @team.threekings from Saint Barthélemy. He makes the case for why Suzuki Jimny is worth consideration!
How did you first encounter the Kei truck greatness?
The great island of Saint Barthélemy, is where I truly fell in love with Kei cars as a whole. Especially the Suzuki Jimny. As an advocate for non aerodynamic vehicles, the Suzuki Jimny also known as the Samurai here in the states stood out to me. Unlike the US spec Samurai, you can get a (insert JDM fanboy)… turbocharged version.
Tell us how you acquired your badass ride?
As of now just preventative maintenance. Some small rust repair and undercarriage coating.
Plans for mods are as followed; wide body kit, snorkel, wheels/tires, some small engine bolt-ons, lighting and most importantly a kick a** stereo system.
What do you mainly use your Kei Truck for?
Right now just commuting in the city, street parking is minimal but no match for this shoebox on wheels!
Moving forward I would love to get the Jimmy on a ferry and over to Nantucket, MA for the summertime.
Have any wild Kei Truck tales or fun facts about your ride?
So far my only unexpected expense while owning the Jimmy happened on day one of ownership. My inner child was so excited to get it home that when I parked it I left not only the emergency brake down but also left the transmission in neutral… I know I know, not a veteran move on my part. Needless to say, while I gathered everyone in my home to come see my new wheels, I was unexpectedly greeted by an empty driveway and a Jimmy at the bottom looking ever so pleasant representing a demolished driveway light post in its path. After all these years of driving less than technologically advanced manuals, I couldn’t do anything other than laugh.
Favorite thing about owning a Kei truck?
The breaking of necks! I have a small collection of vehicles and I can confidently say that the Jimmy gets more attention than all of my other vehicles.
